With India becoming a member of WTO, Pharmaceutical education has also become globalised. Pharmaceutical degree holders are getting outsourced from academics & industry and a dearth of pharmacy people particularly in the senior positions is being felt through out the country. About 60% of the Pharmacy graduates find positions in industry in marketing, production, quality assurance & drugstore management. In the quality control section, they get absorbed in Industry, in Govt. quality control laboratories & in Regulatory affairs in Industry and Govt. in Drug Control department. In CSIR & similar other National Laboratories, they can be absorbed as research assistants where they have good time-bound promotions to the scientist cadre & according to their rules for improvement of their qualifications. In the self-financed sector, they can start their own industry, horticultural activities and chain of drug & community Pharmacies. A good percentage has now started to go in for higher education for doing their M.Pharm. & Ph.D. who have a better scope in Academics & Industry. A few opt for out of the profession educational programmes like journalism, Law, Information Technology, MBA etc.
